These are the instructions for compiling the MAT-1.0.x skeletonization
package. You need an ANSI compiler in order to compile this package,
i.e. cc under SunOS 4.x will NOT work, use acc or gcc instead.

1) Untar the file MAT-1.0.2.tar.Z. This is best done by creating a new
directory for the files involved, moving the tar file into this directory
and invoking the command:

	zcat MAT-1.0.2.tar.Z | tar xvf -

2) Customize the configuration file `config.def' in subdirectory
   config of the distribution.

Check also notes on specific machine architectures in file
   PLATFORMS

3) (i) If you do have imake and xmkmf installed, simply type

     ./bootstrap

in the top directory of the distribution.
This program runs the following commands:

     xmkmf
     make Makefiles
     make

(ii) If you do NOT have imake or if your imake has failed to generate
correct Makefiles, there is imake source code that comes with the
package. In order to first compile a local imake instance, type

     ./bootstrap -local

In the case your standard compiler does not compile imake
correctly, you can try another compiler (e.g. gcc) by specifying

     ./bootstrap -local -cc gcc

4) In the case everything went well, you should find
the following binaries in subdirectory 'bin':
   ctran voro prune shosk loadskset

5) Try it out ! Type

     make test

to run a short test sequence. To skeletons of a maple leaf should
   appear on your screen.

6) type

     make install

in order to install executables, libraries, include files, and
   manual pages.

The following binaries will be installed in PRIVBINDIR:

     ctran voro shosk prune loadskset

The following libraries will be installed in PRIVLIBDIR:

     libSy.a optional: libImLoad.a libjpeg.a libtiff.a libsolex.a
                        libSyAvs.a libSyKhoros.a libgems.a

Optionally, the following AVS module will be installed in
   AVSPRIVBINDIR:

      skelworks

The following manual pages will be installed in PRIVMANDIR:

      contours.1 ctran.1 loadskset.1 prune.1 shosk.1 skeleton.1
      voro.1

The following include files will be installed in PRIVINCDIR:

      Sy_Skeleton.h, Sy_Export.h, Sy_Stddef.h, Sy_InImage.h,
      Sy_NR.h, Sy_Export.h

7) A set of sample images (mostly SunRaster files) are provided
in subdirectory 'pic'. You might want to copy them to a more
   convenient location.

8) Type

     make clean
